So you’ve just bought the best looking mirrorless camera in existence. Now you need a few Nikon Zf accessories. Here are my top 8 picks!
The Nikon Z f is one of the best looking mirrorless cameras ever made. Nikon didn’t just let form lead function either. This camera is a beast, and one of the best cameras in the ultra-competitive ~$2,000 price bracket. That said, here are some Nikon Zf accessories that I have found either enhance or work well with the camera.
1. Neewer Zf L-shaped grip for Nikon Z f
While I have heard many people recommend the Small-Rig grip for the Z f, I personally prefer the look of this grip. The Neewer grip, so far, is my favorite out of my accessories for the Nikon Zf. I love the way its design takes the Zf from an FM-10 to an F3. The iconic Nikon red highlight just really sells it.
Not only does the Neewer grip look amazing, but it’s also functional. The grip itself really helps with the balance and ergonomics of the camera. That is particularly true when using large lenses. The texture on the grip feels nice and though it is not an exact match to the Nikon covering, it’s close enough to not be distracting.
The grip also features a dovetailed bottom that is compatible with Arca-Swiss style tripod heads. The bottom also features two 1/4-20 threaded holes for using other tripod plates (the grip side has one too for vertical shooting; seems kinda weird to me, though). It’s also important to note that the battery and SD cards are fully accessible with the grip mounted.

2. Spare Nikon Zf Batteries
I have always got to have at least one extra battery for my cameras. Personally, I have gone with the ProMaster battery as my second recommendation for Nikon Zf accessories. These batteries save you a little over the OEM, but the coolest part is the warranty. My local camera store will replace these batteries for life if they ever have any problems. How cool is that!?
(A quick note about 3rd Party EN-EL15c batteries: Nikon of course doesn’t recommend these. If a bad 3rd party battery damages your camera, your Nikon Z f warranty may be void. Also, older models of this ProMaster battery weren’t compatible with the Z f, Z8, and Z9. Make sure the ProMaster code is #70988.)

3. SD and Micro-SD cards
I also choose Promaster for my SD and Micro-SD cards of choice. The Rugged line of cards are appropriately named. I’ve been using them since 2019 and they have been rock solid. The Promaster Rugged cards are cold resistant, impact resistant, and even moisture resistant. They come in many various sizes and speeds. My local camera store also backs these with lifetime warranties and a free card recovery service if needed. Super cool!

4. Screen protection
After years of working in a camera shop, I run screen protectors on all of my cameras. I have seen so many cameras come in with terribly scratched up screens. Also, that doesn’t even cover the cases where people have cracked and broken them.
The first time I bought a screen protector from Expert Shield was for my Pentax K3iii. It came with two for the main screen and two for the top deck LCD. They have held up great to this day. Luckily, the spare cover fits on the Nikon Z f, but Expert Shield makes on specifically for the Nikon.

5. Protection for the Nikon ZF kit lens
Another Nikon Zf accessory is the lens protection filter. If you purchased a 40mm lens kit like I did, you’ll want to add a 52mm protection filter to it. While I don’t know how effective I believe they are at protecting the lens from breaking, I do know they’re great at preventing scratching. They also make it much easier to keep your lenses in mint condition. Cleaning these filters is a breeze do to the Repellamax II Coating. Plus, they keep all that crud from ever getting on your lens. They’re worth the money.

6. Peak Designs camera strap for Nikon Z f
Here is another Nikon Z f accessory that I started using in 2019. The Peak Design Slide is bar-none my favorite camera strap. The quick release system is incredibly tough and super easy to manipulate and use. The strap lock/adjust bars are a really cool aesthetic touch, but they’re also super functional and make adjusting the length a breeze. Another reason I picked the Slide is that its width makes it super comfortable with nearly any camera and lens combo on it. Finally, I think the silver one looks great on the Nikon Zf with the 40mm f/2 SE lens.

7. Lens adapter for Nikon Zf (or any Z)
I have always loved using my old film-era lenses on digital cameras. Excellent focus peaking, a crisp EVF, and excellent IBIS are just a few things that make the Nikon an excellent camera body for adapting vintage lenses. It is my favorite camera for it, and as such, lens adapters are some of my favorite Nikon Zf accessories.
If you’ve read much on my website, you’ll know I’m a big Pentaxian. So of course a Pentax K to Z-mount adapter was one of my first Nikon Z f accessories. I also have Minolta MD and M42 to Nikon Z-mount adapters. They’re just so much fun. Also, when it comes to filming video, these old lenses really shine.

8. Soft shutter release button
Soft shutter release buttons aren’t something I originally set out to get for my Nikon Z f. However, the Neewer Grip (my number one accessory above) came with one included. I have come to really like the feel of using it. At first I was concerned it moved the shutter button too high for comfort, but after a few trips out, I forgot I ever had that worry. I think they are also just a fun way to add a personal touch to a camera. I may have to order some different ones to swap around and use on my film cameras as well!
